What is a Miniature Golden Retriever?

The Miniature Golden Retriever, also known as the Golden Cocker Retriever or Dakota Sport Retriever, is a Designer Breed that has been crossbred to produce a healthier dog with the happy people-loving temperament of the Golden Retriever, the small size and sweet cuddly personality of the Cocker Spaniel. We love the Mini Golden for their sweet and happy temperament, smaller size, and good health.

Every breed tends to develop inherited problems over time. Popular breeds tend to have concentrated problems (because the breeding pool might be small), but the great bonus of a crossbreed dog like a miniature golden retriever is that these problems tend to be weeded out in the mix. Because it’s smaller, your miniature golden will have fewer issues with hip and knee dysplasia — and as a bonus, smaller dogs tend on average to live longer than larger ones. It’s the best of both worlds: a sweet-tempered, healthy, and happy dog you’ll share your life with for a longer time

How big do Mini Goldens get?

Our Miniature Golden Retrievers range in size from 40 to 50 pounds. Occasionally we may have smaller puppies maturing at closer to 35 pounds and larger puppies maturing closer to 55 pounds. We will do our best to make an estimate of the adult size of your puppy, but ultimately we can NOT guarantee adult sizes.

How much do your puppies cost?

Our Mini Goldens start at $2500+GST and up.

Prices are based on Choice Level (1st choice slightly higher in price than 2nd, 3rd or lower

choice), Parents and DNA test results.

What are the steps for purchasing a puppy?

  • Application

  • Phone Interview

  • Reservation Fee and Signed Contract (found under puppy parent portal)

  • Balance Paid in Full.

RESERVATION FEE: To reserve your spot on our Reservation List (following application and phone interview) there is a non-refundable $300 reservation fee which is applied to the price of your puppy. Your reservation fee can be paid through our online secure payment options or Interac ETransfer. Once we have received your application and reservation fee you will be placed on our reservation list.

Reservation List/Pick Order is on a first come first serve basis. We begin accepting applications once a breeding has been confirmed and we know our female is pregnant.  Individual puppy choice will be done after all puppies have been temperament tested between week 7 and 8. This gives our adopting family's time to review each puppy and their temperament tests to make the best possible choice for their lifestyle.  Our goal is always to match the best puppy to the best household.

Once a litter is whelped, we will make adjustments accordingly and begin to accept reservation fees for any additional puppies born. We will email notice of additional spots available, if any, based on the order/date of the applications we have received. From this point additional spots on the Reservation List will be filled based on the order in which fees are received. Once we have alerted you to additional puppies available, to secure your place on the List, you must submit your fee. If you are interested in a future litter please let us know or check back when you are ready for a new puppy.

WE reserve pick of the litter on all litters. We also reserve the right to return a reservation fee without penalty for any reason.

PAYMENT OPTIONS: For balance due please pay by Cash, Credit Card (on our website), PayPal or ETransfer (sent before pick up date so funds have time to process. We will not release puppies until verification of payment is complete.) Payment in FULL is required BEFORE your puppy goes home.

What can I expect once I have placed my Reservation Fee?

Once your application has been reviewed, a phone interview completed, and you have secured your place on the Reservation List with a Deposit this is what you can expect and look forward to.

Do you offer Shipping?

For those that cannot easily drive here to pick up your puppy, there are a few different options besides driving.

  • We deliver puppy to the Calgary Airport where you can fly in and pick up. Cost for this service is $75.00

  •

  • Personal delivery to you in person, at your city’s airport. The cost for personal delivery starts at $500, depending on cost of airfare plus our time. We will take care of making the reservations but you’ll need to notify us you’d like this delivery service during the first week after your puppy’s litter has arrived.

  •

  • Have puppy shipped to you.   This services depends on time of year and if airlines are accepting animals at that time. Please contact us if you are interested in this option. Prices vary based on airline fees.  Having an 8 week old puppy ship in cargo across Canada is not our preference. It can be highly stressful for the puppy.  We are happy to work with you to arrange for you to get your puppy.

  •

  • Puppy Delivery Meet – Depending on how close you are to us we'll drive and meet you PART WAY to deliver your puppy. Delivery fee and availability of this option is determined on a case by case basis and distance traveled.

How is Country Chic different from other breeders?

Healthy, happy, well adjusted puppies come from healthy parents, early neurological stimulation and a safe, loving environment that allow the puppy to thrive.  They have plenty of room to explore here on our ranch.

Our mothers are given Breeders Edge "Strong B" to provide essential B vitamins to put them in the best condition possible prior to breeding. During pregnancy and post natal she is supplemented with all the vitamins, minerals and calcium she needs to grow strong puppies, recover from birthing and provide all her puppies with enough milk for proper growth and development.

Our parent dogs are our babies and we make sure that they and their babies have everything they need, always.

We are particular who we choose for our adopting parents. We only want the best homes.

COUNTRY CHICS MISSION & PURPOSE

Country Chic is dedicated to creating a healthy legacy of Mini Golden Retrievers that are empowered and equipped to enter the world as a service dog or family companion. We truly believe in the power of a dog that can heal hearts and change lives through service or companionship.

EARLY NEUROLOGICAL STIMULATION & EARLY SCENT INTRODUCTION

All puppies at Country Chic undergo Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Sent Introduction (ESI).  ENS's focus is to improve cardiovascular performance, stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and a greater resistance to disease. Puppies also undergo ESI and are exposed to a variety of different scents. The benefit of ESI is to create nose awareness and confidence. These skills are great for hunting, tracking, and diabetic alert dogs.

THE BADASS BREEDER (BAB) PUPPY CURRICULUM

Country Chic follows the 8 + week BAB puppy curriculum guide that focuses on the health of Mom and puppies as well the socialization of puppies. This curriculum exposes puppies to different noises, handling exercises, and novelty exposure activities to help raise well socialized and great temperament puppies. We monitor the stress and startle recovery of all puppies during exposure activities. Stuffed toys, plastic balls, bubble wrap, blocks, water bottles, brain games, water exposure, obstacle courses, large slides, cage exposure, and car rides are some examples of puppy exposure activities. Our goal is to empower puppies and ensure we are enhancing nerve strength, confidence, high approach, and low fear so that puppies are equipped to succeed in a service working placement or a companion home.

VISITATIONS & PUPPY SELECTION

Buyers are welcome to come to our home when puppies are 6 weeks old. (By appointment only). Puppy selection happens on "Go Home Day." At 8 weeks old, puppies have been seen by our veterinarian and have undergone puppy evaluations for temperament. At Country Chic, we believe in the value and power of allowing Buyers to make an informed decision based on the Badass Breeder Scorecards for aptitude testing when puppies are 8 weeks old. In order to get the most accurate results we complete puppy evaluations between 50-53 days old. This process ensures we are meeting the needs of both the Puppy and the Buyer.

PUPPY EVALUATIONS/APPTITUDE TESTING

All puppies at Country Chic undergo Puppy Aptitude Test/Evaluation at day 50-53.  Puppies are evaluated on assertiveness, confidence, motivation level, nerve strength/resiliency, touch tolerance, energy level, sound sensitivity, sight sensitivity, prey drive, human focus or pack drive, tenderhearted, and dog friendliness. All Puppy Score Cards are emailed out to Buyers prior to "Go Home Day" in order to help match Buyer and Puppy needs for a successful match.
